Inspired by the vast Nuiqsut landscape, this building’s design features vertical elements that symbolize the community’s connection to the land and sea. The unique siding reflects the harvest of the whale, while perforated metal screens create patterns significant to the region.
Interior design elements, such as the wildlife-themed elevator lobbies, celebrate Alaska Native culture. Each floor honors different animals central to the subsistence lifestyle, with the whale, symbolizing community sharing, featured prominently on the top level.
