Designed to be used by the community as an educational facility as well as a unique meeting space with a variety of rooms, the BP Energy Center was the product of both KPB Architects and landscape architects to preserve and incorporate the surrounding forest.
The primary exhibit, a “story pipeline” on an LED screen that comes from outside and into the building, is where the story of various Alaskans is told, supported by background images on large projection screens.
There are recycling stations and descriptive signage located in several high-traffic zones to educate visitors to the importance of conservation and preservation of the natural environment. The green glass was chosen to provide visual continuity with the forest and to enclose the technology-rich area of the largest conference room.
The center is a contribution to the non-profit community by one of Alaska’s biggest corporate citizens.
